CEMCA is an important centre that has been established by the Commonwealth of Learning (CoL) to cater to the learning needs expressed by the Asian countries.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has developed a 15-hour MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) on Essential Life skills in collaboration with the Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA). In order to enhance the life skills competency among students, researchers, educators and industry personnel, the MOOC has been developed.
CEMCA is an important centre that has been established by the Commonwealth of Learning (CoL) to cater to the learning needs expressed by the Asian countries. The IIT(BHU) director Prof Pramod Kumar Jain said that "life skills adaptive and positive behaviour among learners. Life skills have been identified by UNICEF and WHO as skills that help an individual to be successful in living a productive and satisfying life."
Prof Jain said that "the MOOC on ‘Essential Life Skills’ will help develop professional competence and promote psychological wellbeing among participants. He added that CEMCA (CoL) will be opening this course to participants from around fifteen countries in the Asian region including India soon."
"The IIT(BHU) Varanasi will continue to partner with leading agencies to develop content to contribute to nation building through capacity building," he added.
The entire MOOC has been designed and developed by Dr Ajit Kumar Mishra of the department of Humanistic Studies and produced at the Teaching Learning Centre (TLC) of the institute. The National Education Policy (2020) has also identified a growing awareness of the rapidly changing social, economic, and political structures.
Mishra said "that realizing this need for sustainable upskilling, the IIT(BHU) and CEMCA (CoL) have joined hands to come forward with MOOC, designed to train participants in psychosocial and interpersonal skills in an experiential setting with a view to develop the requisite capacity for optimal living. The core life skills included in the course are communication, relationship, thinking, leadership and wellbeing skills."
