IIT Indore becomes first IIT to start PM Jan Aushadhi Kendra
The kendra will provide medicines and surgicals at subsidised rates not only to the institute but also to the locals. It encourages women to take up entrepreneurship activities and will be run by a woman entrepreneur.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore has become the first IIT in the country to inaugurate the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra. The institute started the PM Jan Aushadhi Kendra, one of the largest medicine supply chain networks, during its 13th foundation day celebrations.
In a press release, IIT Indore said, “The kendra will provide medicines and surgicals at subsidised rates, which will benefit both institute and locals.” The kendra, which encourages women to take up entrepreneurship activities, will be run by a woman entrepreneur."
Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT) Director Shankar V Nakhe was the chief guest, whereas IIT Indore chairman Deepak B Phatak was special guest. Suhas Joshi, who was recently appointed as IIT Indore Director, was also present at the inaugural function.

Suhas Joshi said, “We have made major plans for the years to come and thought processes are underway for the expansion of our teaching and research activities. We are planning some of the new undergraduate and postgraduate academic programmes. Development of a new Industrial Research Park will help industries cross over the industry boundary and come closer to us. We have plans to initiate collaborative research programmes in advanced technology with RRCAT.”
