IIT Madras reports COVID Cluster; Tally rises to 55
With new COVID-19 positive samples coming in, IIT Madras has turned into a COVID cluster.
COVID-19 cases in Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Madras are rising endlessly. The reports of COVID-19 positive cases at IIT Madras started with 12 students testing positive. The institute has now reported 25 more cases today, leading to the formation of a COVID cluster. The total COVID caseload at IIT Madras has now touched 55.
COVID Cluster at IIT Madras
With new COVID-19 positive samples coming in, IIT Madras has turned into a COVID cluster. Until yesterday, April 22, 2022, the institute reported 18 more positive cases, with which the COVID tally became 30 cases. However, the authorities had mentioned that since more samples have been sent for testing, it is expected that some might come back positive. While briefing the media today, Tamil Nadu Health Secretary informed that IIT madras is under the rapid testing procedure and all efforts are being extended to curb this COVID spread.
As per the information shared by the Health Secretary, the authorities are conducting COVID tests at 19 hostels of the technology institute. Talking about the sudden surge of COVID-19 cases in the institute, the authorities expect the rate of infection to be higher in a hostel where there are students from other states as well.
Talking about IIT Madras COVID-19 cases, Principal Secretary-Health, Dr J Radhakrishnan told ANI, "We have also created an isolation facility that is being effectively utilised. Definitely, it is a cluster, but we have ensured that it doesn't turn into large scale outside."
The Health Secretary has also clarified that so far no 'XE' variant has been found in Tamil Nadu. Most of the patients are stable and are being monitored continuously.
