Goa needs skill development institutions, says CM Sawant

While inaugurating FSAI's Skill Development Centre (FSDC) started by the Fire and Security Association of India (FSAI) at Ponda in South Goa, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant informed that the state government is contemplating upgrading engineering colleges and also the Directorate of Technical Education not just in terms of infrastructure but also skill development. He said that the state requires skill development institutions in various fields.

"The government is making all out efforts to develop the manpower of the state into skilled manpower with the help of IIT, NIT, GIM, BITS Pilani and other engineering colleges," he said, as reported by Investing.com.

He said PM Narendra Modi had given a call for a 'New India' formation for which futuristic education needs to be planned. He sought the support and cooperation of the people and institutions to achieve this goal. He also asked FSAI to start the courses given through FSDC at Industrial Training Institutes of the state government.

"The government will consider giving preference to the candidates who have completed this type of government-approved course in the Fire and Emergency Department. For that, recruitment rules will also be changed in the future," he said.

Goa govt identified land for IIT

As per reports, the state's Social Welfare Minister Subhash Phal Dessai has said that 7.50 lakh square-metre land has been identified in South Goa's Sanguem constituency for IIT. "We will take care that no destruction of the environment takes place here. It is government land and there are few encroachments in the area. However, we will speak to encroachers and will try to rehabilitate them," he said.
