IIT Delhi all set to launch online certificate courses this year

IIT Delhi is all set to launch online certificate courses to fulfill the specialised technology needs of the industry. Business analytics, supercomputing, cybersecurity, strategic innovation and more, are likely to be some of the focused areas of the programme.

One of India’s prestigious technology institutes, IIT Delhi, has reached the advanced stage of developing a policy framework to launch online certificate courses for the industry. Being a part of the continuous learning offering of the institute, this step will assist in fulfilling the specialised technology needs of the industry.

According to Dr Mahim Sagar, Professor, Department of Management Studies and Head, Continuing Education Program (CEP) at IIT Delhi, these online courses will not only have a qualification and work experience criteria but there will also be a cap on the number of enrollments. To maintain the exclusivity and brand of IIT Delhi, the offered online courses will be different from Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).

He further added that some courses might have an entrance test as per their respective departments. Business analytics, supercomputing, cyber security, strategic innovation and more, are likely to be some of the focused areas of the programme. To market this course and make the information reach masses, the institute has decided to join hands with online education companies and platforms. The Professor also said that IIT Delhi being an academic institute wants to keep a balanced approach while choosing courses without getting swayed by commercial topics. The idea is to do justice to areas of pure sciences that are equally relevant.

Another key reason behind this move is sustainability. These online courses will also help to generate additional revenue for the institute. To ensure academic rigour and excellence, the process of carving a policy framework for these online courses was started. This policy will outline faculty commitment, revenue share with the platform, governance and quality checks and assessment methodology.
