Jadavpur University to begin offline classes, reopen campus in phased manner

During a meeting with the student's representatives, the university had decided that one year from undergraduate and postgraduate each will be called to the university and the respective departments can decide which year students should attend offline classes.

Jadavpur University has announced that it will begin the offline classes and reopen its campus for students in a phased manner from November 16. “The respective faculty will decide who they will call in each phase as the campus reopens for in-person classes,” as reported by the Telegraph India.

During a meeting with the student's representatives, the university had decided that one year from undergraduate and postgraduate each will be called to the university and the respective departments can decide which year students should attend offline classes, a JU official said, as per the report.

In the first phase, all PhD and MPhil students will be called to the campus. In this phase, the physical classes for postgraduate first-year students of the engineering department will also be resumed. Other departments will decide whether to call the PG second-year students or not. Decision on resuming offline classes for BTech first year students will be made after considering their vaccination status

The UG second, third and fourth will continue to have their classes in online mode until the exam which is scheduled in December, the report added.

The report further added Parthapratim Roy, an associate professor of the physics department, who said, “Theory and practical classes for those being called will be carried out following Covid protocol. Details will be worked out soon.”

Meanwhile, Jadavpur University's scientists have secured a place in the database compiled by Stanford University that ranks the top two per cent of scientists across the world on the basis of their research publications. An official of the Jadavpur University Teachers Association claimed that 29 scientists from JU are the highest on the list among all the universities of the country.
