Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar have said that the state government has not decided on reopening the schools across the state yet. The Education Minister while addressing the media said that the Chief Minister will take a call after receiving the report from the Commissioner of Public Instruction who will speak to stakeholders in the next two days.
The Commissioner will meet the social welfare department, backward classes department, health, BBMP, and school development monitoring committees in the next two days, after which the decision on reopening of schools will be taken.
However, a meeting was held with the deputy director of public instructions and block education officers on November 3. Also, unaided schools in five southern districts of the state also met and their suggestions will also be considered to decide on school reopening.
The Minister while speaking to the media house said that the government is not in any hurry to reopen schools. “We are looking at states where schools have reopened. Earlier the Education Minister of the state had said that they are seriously studying the Andhra Pradesh model for reopening of schools. “Prior to taking any decision, we need to examine everything as it a question of students' lives.”
Meanwhile, colleges in the state will reopen from November 17 onwards. Degree colleges, engineering colleges, and diploma colleges will be opened this month. Deputy Chief Minister Ashwath Narayan who also holds the Higher Education Minister of Portfolio had said in October that students who are interested can attend the colleges physically or even online. Students can even blend it. There was a demand from students and parents to open the colleges. Hence we have decided to take this decision.
