Karnataka School Reopening: Nearly 32 students tested positive for the novel coronavirus at a residential school in the Kodagu district of Karnataka. According to the data shared by the school, a total of 10 girls and 22 boys tested for the virus over a week ago. They are students of Classes 9 to 12. According to media reports, the incident took place at Jawahar Navodaya Vidayalaya in Madikeri of Kodagu district. 10 of the students are symptomatic while 22 are not showing any symptoms for COVID-19 at all. Among the positive patients, one staff member has also tested positive and is symptomatic. The treatment for the novel coronavirus is being done at the District Hospital for all these students and staff member.
The school has a total of 270 students. The school has conducted tests for COVID-19 for all of them.
Pankajashan, the Principal of the school, told NDTV that the condition of these patients are stable and none of the students are critical. "Their condition is improving; there is nothing to worry about. The entire campus has been sanitised and other precautionary measures are being taken. The interaction between students and teachers is going on though it has affected the smooth functioning of the school," he said.
The District Collector, District Health Officer, and other officials visited the school today. In order to prevent further infection and considering the safety of students, appropriate measures have been taken by the school. The state reopened schools after a closure of over one and half years due to the pandemic outbreak.
