"We have given a holiday as we expect trouble on the day. We will reschedule the classes but not this Saturday. We will make it before our half-yearly exams,” said St Augustine's Day School, Ripon Street, principal Richard Gaspar, as reported by TOI.
Modern High and Shri Shikshayatan said they would stay open but would not take action against students unable to reach school due to traffic. Assembly of God Church has rescheduled Thursday's exams for Saturday and South City International decided on early dispersal and Sushila Birla Girls' School has shifted online for the day.
Schools to remain closed on Thursday
The schools that have issued notices declaring that there would be no classes on Thursday are - The Heritage School, DPS Ruby Park Gokhale Memorial, Calcutta Girls; St James' School, Assembly of God Church, Don Bosco Park Circus, St Augustine's Day School, Ripon Street, and DPS Megacity.
BJP MLA writes to govt requesting school closure
BJP MLA, Dr Shankar Ghosh has written a letter to the government a few days ago requesting school closure due to the immense heat wave. Schools in Kolkata and other southern parts of the state shifted to online classes but not in North Bengal.
“For the last few days, intense heat wave is raging in North Bengal. In this situation, parents say that students of Primary and Secondary Section are facing problems in going to school. One college student died due to heatwave as reported in the newspaper," the letter reads, as reported by News18.
