While hearing a batch of writ petitions, the Patna high court has asked the Bar Council of India (BCI) to accommodate students studying in the private and state government law colleges which might fail to fulfil the affiliation criteria.
The court has also directed nearly 27 law colleges in Bihar to submit a petition to BCI for carrying out an inspection to identify if these colleges fulfil the basic criteria for getting affiliation or not.
The high court has directed BCI to carry out an inspection within the next two weeks once the colleges submit their petitions so that they can decide on approving affiliation for those who fulfil the affiliation criteria.
The division bench Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice S Kumar have fixed August 24 for the next hearing on this matter.
Earlier BCI inspection report had suggested that except for the Central University of South Bihar in Gaya and the CNLU in Patna, none of the 27 colleges fulfil the affiliation criteria due to shortage of infrastructure and teaching staff. On this assessment of BCI, on March 22, 2021, the high court had stayed the registration for fresh admissions in the colleges. The stay continues on the registration for session 2021-2022.
