Allahabad High Court has directed the Bar Council of India (BCI) to shut down websites that offer online law courses without any approval. Read here complete story.
The High Court, Allahabad has raised questions on the online law courses provided several websites without approval of the Bar Council of India (BCI). The HC Bench headed by Chief Justice Pritinker Diwaker and Justice Saumitra Dayal Singh has asked BCI to take strict action against such websites. Moreover, the bench suggested that BCI should make appropriate proposals to the Union of India so these fraudalant websites can be shut down.
The two judges bench was hearing a PIL filed by Shrey Singh who stated in the plea that there are certain websites that are offering ceritfication courses in law in online mode. It also stated that such courses may never have been approved by BCI, the regulatory authority for legal education in India.
The bench quoted, "in case petitioner files a proper application before it disclosing details of all such entities and courses being run by them, as are not authorized by the Bar Council, it shall examine the matter threadbare and make appropriate recommendation to the Union of India to ensure appropriate action to shut down fraudulent websites etc. and or such courses, as also to initiate appropriate action against the persons hosting such websites and running such courses, as may be warranted.
It is further expected that the Bar Council of India shall complete the exercise within a period of three months from the date a copy of this order is served upon it.”
