The BCI 20th Qualifying Examination will be held from May 20 to 25, 2024, and will consist of six papers on different dates. All those candidates who have a foreign law degree and want to practice law in India, will have to appear for this qualifying examination mandatorily.

BCI 20th Qualifying Examination: The Bar Council of India (BCI) will conduct the 20th qualifying examination for Indian nationals who holds a degree in law from foreign universities. The exam will be held from May 20 to 25, 2024, and will consist of six papers on different dates. All those candidates who have a foreign law degree and want to practice law in India, will have to appear for this qualifying examination mandatorily. 

The exam authority informed, "The 20th Bar Council of India Qualifying Examination for Indian Nationals Holding Foreign Law Degrees is scheduled from 20th May, 2024 to 25th May, 2024 from 11.00 AM to 02.00 PM in the premises of the Bar Council of India at 21, Rouse Avenue, Institutional Area, New Delhi-110002."

24-May-2024 (Friday) 11 am to 2 pm Criminal Procedure Code
25-May-2024 (Saturday) 11 am to 2 pm The Indian Legal Profession and Code of Ethics

Candidates will be able to apply on the official website of the Bar Council of India - www.barcouncilofindia.org as and when the application form on or before May 6, 2024. Complete details regarding the application process, eligibility criteria, exam centers, and pattern are yet to be published. 

"For candidates who have appeared in the examination previously and have one or two or more subject papers to clear, this examination is giving an opportunity of re-examination to all those candidates, who have not cleared all the papers in previous exam. They are required to appear only in that subject paper in which they are required to clear/pass on account of them being unable to appear for the said subject paper, previously, or having appeared for the same, have been unable to pass in such subject paper/exam previously," the official notification stated.

BCI 20th Qualifying Exam: Is Bare Acts allowed?

Candidates must note that only individual bare acts (not digests) (as available in the market, preferably with least short notes) shall be allowed for the following 3 papers.; i.e. Civil Procedure Code and Limitation Act, (Paper-4 on 23.05.2024) 2. Criminal Procedure Code (Paper-5 on 24.05.2024) and 3. The Indian Legal Profession and Code of Ethics. The bare acts, which may be allowed, should not bear any notings by pen/pencil, chits as per the past practice and decision of the Committee.No books, including question-answer guides, notes shall be allowed.
