AIBE COP: The Bar Council of India (BCI) has released an important notification regarding the Certificate of Practice (COP). It must be noted that only those advocates who have appeared and qualified for the All India Bar Examination will be issued COP to continue practising at the court of law in India. The BCI released AIBE 17 COP on December 7, 2023. AIBE 18 COP 2023 will be released once AIBE 18 Result 2023 is announced. The BCI has not announced the AIBE 18 Result 2023 date and time yet.

In an official notification, BCI announced that, "It is clarified that dummy COP (Certificate of Practice) or internet COP copies presently uploaded on the "All India Bar Examination App. are uploaded solely for the purpose of viewing details by candidates for requesting correction in their particulars such as names, father's name, and enrollment number and for crosschecking particulars from State Bar Councils. These online COPs are not printable, nor downloadable from the AIBE App. These online COPs do not hold any validity, as they are only drafts for correction purposes. Their sole purpose was/is for correction of the same after verification of details of the candidates who had given AIBE."

The BCI has made it mandatory for all lawyers to obtain a Certificate of Practice (COP) within two years of provisional enrollment. As per the rule laid down by BCI, the AIBE 17 qualified candidates will receive a Certificate of Practice from their enrolled State Bar Councils. All the candidates who will clear the AIBE will receive the Certificate of Practice (COP) through speed post. The process of obtaining AIBE COP begins as soon as a person enrolls with their respective state bar council on a provisional basis. How to obtain COP from State Bar Council?

Earlier, the Bar Council of India would release a notification for all the qualified candidates informing them about the availability of COP at the state bar councils. Candidates then would obtain the COP by visiting their respective state bar council. In 2021, the bar council launched a mobile application AIBESCOPE so that candidates can obtain a digital copy of their COP until a hard copy is provided to them. Now, candidates have to fill and submit an application form as available either on the official website or on the official address of the state bar council.
