The Supreme Court of India has announced a landmark decision mandating reservations for women in the Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA). The decision has been taken to enhance gender representation within the legal community. The Court has asked the General Body Meeting of DHCBA be convened within 10 days to address this ruling. The Bench, comprising Justice Surya Kant, Dipankar Datta and Ujjal Bhuyan further clarifies that the GBM should ensure that the reservation of the Treasurer's post is exclusively for women members.
Also, there is the possibility of reserving an additional post among the office bearers for women to be considered.The Apex Court has ordered that out of the ten memeber in the Executive Committee, at least three should be women, with at least one of them being a senior designated advocate. The move comes in a reponse to petitions advocating for a 33 percent reservation for women lawyers across various legal bodies in Delhi including the BCD and other district Bar Associations.
Earlier, SC announced major decision related to the eligibility criteria of All India Bar Examination 2024. The AIBE 19 Exam 2024 is scheduled for November 24, 2024. The SC gave nod to the final-year law students to appear for AIBE 19 (XIX) Exam 2024. The Apex Court passed the interim order while hearing a plea challenging the AIBE 19 Eligibility Criteria 2024 announced along with the AIBE 19 Notification 2024.
