Candidates seeking admission to the PG Diploma in Medical Law, Policy and Ethics course in Gujarat National Law University must apply latest by December 25, 2022.

GNLU: Admissions open for PG Diploma in Medical Law, Policy and Ethics

Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) has invited applications for PG Diploma in Medical Law, Policy and Ethics by December 25, 2022.

The eligibility criteria for the course is an MBBS degree from any recognised national or foreign university. Preference shall be given to the candidates registered with IMA-Gujarat State Branch, and registration with IMA-any other state branch is needed.

The programme will offer the opportunity to study the contemporary legal and ethical challenges faced by those working in the healthcare sector. The course aims to acquaint medical practitioners with evolving issues such as assisted reproduction, abortion, genetics, mental health, standards of medical treatment, transplantation medicine, euthanasia health research, advanced directives/decisions, and the allocation of scarce resources.

How to apply

Interested and eligible candidates must send the application form with the latest coloured passport-size photograph by 5 pm on December 25, 2022. The application form must be duly filled out and mailed to pgdmlpe@gnlu.ac.in. The enclosures required are - an attested photocopy of the graduation mark sheet and degree and proof of MCI/State Medical Council Registration.

Course learning outcomes

As per GNLU's statement upon successful completion of this course, the learners will be able to - appreciate and understand the legal framework surrounding medical education and profession, appreciate the legal and ethical provisions involving the medical profession including biomedical research, understand rights and duties of a medical practitioner initially as a citizen of India and as a medical professional. 

Further, they would be able to appreciate how some legal issues and situations arising out of negligence, malpractices and unethical practices are dealt with by the Indian Legal System. The students will also get the understanding of the need and significance of protection of Intellectual Properties under various legal frameworks.
