As many as 64 students of Gujarat National Law University have been found to be Covid-19 positive, the infected students have been kept in isolation in the college's hostel.
Gujarat National Law University's Covid-19 tally has reached 64 in six days, as confirmed by a health department official. Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation medical officer Dr Kalpesh Goswami has said that those infected are students only who met physically for the first time after offline classes resumed on April 4.
None of the infected students requires hospitalisation and all have been kept in isolation in the institute's hostel, with three teams monitoring their health round the clock, he added, as reported by Telegraph India.
GNLU: 700 tested for Covid-19
"So far, some 700 students and staff of the university have been screened for the virus, and 64 students have tested positive. After offline classes resumed, students arrived at the campus from their home states and the virus may have spread as they interacted with each other," said the official.
Reportedly, some samples have been sent for genome sequencing to identify the Covid variant involved in these cases.
Few states report slight increase in Covid cases
After the Omicron variant-led third wave faded in India, in a span of the last seven days many states including Delhi, Haryana and Gujarat have reported an increase in average daily Covid-19 cases. On Tuesday, Gujarat recorded 24 new Covid-19 cases that raised the total number of infected to 12,24,106, as per officials, the state is left with 152 active cases.
