Mangaluru's law student wins Gold in south zone shotgun contest

Samuel Simson, the first-year LLB student of SDM Law College, has won Gold Medal in a shotgun “double trap” shooting competition at the South India Zone level.

A first-year LLB student of SDM Law College, Samuel Simson has again won a medal, this time Gold Medal in shotgun “double trap” shooting competition in the South India Zone level held in Hyderabad on September 24.

Earlier on September 22, he won the Silver Medal in the shotGun trap shooting Competition in the same south India Zone level held in Hyderabad. In both these events, he qualified for the upcoming nationals event in Delhi. He is the first shooter from Dakshina Kannada District to win the Gold and Silver medals at the state level as well as the South India Zone level at the age of only 19, as reported by Daijiworld.

This Championship is open to shooters belonging to the South Zone only and shooters from other states are not permitted to participate in this Championship in any match including for achieving MQS score as Guest Shooter.

Samuel Simson receives warm welcome at Mangalore International Airport 

He was welcomed by Abaychandra Jain, Mithun Rai, Uday Birwair Kudla, police officials, Indigo & Spice Jet higher officers at the airport.

He informed the media that due to internal exams till September 16, without practice, he could manage well in the competition and win the medals in the Double Trap. He was the highest scorer and unbeaten among all top shooters in the event and he grabbed the Gold Medal. Samuel gives credit to his father for his huge support. His main inspirational force is Siby Rajesh Chakravarthy, a nationally renowned shooter from Tamil Nadu.

Samuel said, "It is very tough in Mangaluru for the shooters due to the lack of any firing ranges in our District," adding that his father started a shooting academy that helped him reach his goals.
