NALSAR Convocation 2024: The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, graced NALSAR's 21st convocation in Hyderabad, urging students to uphold the ideals of the Constitution rooted in India's freedom struggle.
The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, graced the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR) 21st convocation in Hyderabad, emphasising the Constitution’s core values of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity - ideals born from India’s freedom struggle. She highlighted the Directive Principle of equal justice and free legal aid, which mandates the State to ensure that no citizen is denied justice due to economic or other disadvantages. Acknowledging the disparity in access to justice between rich and poor, the President called on young legal professionals to be catalysts for change and work towards a fairer system.
The President reminded students that as advocates, their duty extends beyond serving their clients to assisting the court in delivering justice. She urged them to uphold the values of integrity and courage, regardless of their chosen legal path. "Speaking truth to power," she said, "is what truly empowers you."
NALSAR's Leadership in Social Justice and Legal Aid Praised by President
The President expressed her pleasure in seeing NALSAR take the lead in several critical areas. She commended the university's efforts in addressing issues related to disability rights, access to justice, prison and juvenile justice, and legal aid. She also praised NALSAR for establishing the Animal Law Centre, highlighting the importance of protecting animals, birds, trees, and water bodies for the well-being of humanity. The President noted that younger generations expect this commitment to environmental and animal welfare, and NALSAR’s initiative is a significant step in that direction.
