The Ministry of Education (MoE) along with the National Institutional Ranking Framework has released the NIRF Ranking 2024. As per the NIRF ranking for law colleges in India 2024, National Law School of India University, Bangalore, National Law University, New Delhi, and NALSAR, Hyderabad has secured the top 3 positions. During the press conference for NIRF Ranking 2024 announcement, the NLSIU Bangalore and NLU Delhi were declared as once again the top law colleges in India.

MHRD approved NIRF Ranking in 2015, to rank universities and institutes based on key parameters such as “Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR),” “Research and Professional Practices & Collaborative Performace (RPC) ,” “Graduation Outcomes (GO),” “Outreach and Inclusivity (OI),” and “Perception”. From 2017 onwards, NIRF Ranking was also shared for 'Discipliune specific ranks' all institutions.

Therefore, the 23 National Law Universities in India are among the top law colleges as per the NIRF Law Ranking. Private law colleges such as SLS Pune, ILS Law College, Pune, UPES School of Law, Christ University Law College etc. also among in the best law colleges in India as per NIRF Law Ranking.

Q:   How many seats are available for admission through CLAT 2025?

A:

At the moment, there are a total of 24 NLUs that are participating institutes of CLAT 2025. The seat intake for all the courses offered at NLUs has been revised as under:
For the five-year LL.B. - The integrated law programme is offered by all the 24 NLUs, with the seat intake standing at 3,213 seats. For the one-year LL. M. - The programme is offered by 21 NLUs, which have a combined intake of 1,217 seats. In 2021, total 4,009 seats were available, out of which 3,012 seats are available for UG courses and 997 seats are available for PG course admissions. Q:   How many seats are offered by National Law Universities through CLAT?

A:

CLAT Exam is conducted to fill 3,213 seats in undergraduate courses and 1,217 in PG courses. These number doesn't include sponsored, supernumerary, NRI, and extra seats. The admission to 24 NLUs is done on the basis of the CLAT score and the cutoff. Candidates must note that the admission to any of the NLUs will not be done without CLAT score.

Q:   How many universities participate in CLAT?

A:

There are a total of 24 NLUs that are participating institutes of CLAT 2026. 5-year LLB - The integrated law programme is offered by all the 24 NLUs, with the seat intake standing at 3,213 seats. The official website for CLAT registration details 2026 is consortiumofnlus.ac.in. Candidates seeking admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered at National Law Universities (NLUs) can apply for CLAT 2026 on or before the last date. CLAT 2026 registration fee is INR 4,000 for general category candidates and INR 3,500 for SC, ST and BPL candidates.

Q:   How many universities/colleges accept CLAT score?

A:

Around the country, there are 60 public and private colleges, 22 NLUs, and 60 CLAT universities that accept CLAT results. The Consortium of NLUs and these CLAT Colleges have an agreement in place that allows the applicants to be accepted based just on their rank. Candidates who are looking forward to taking admission through CUET must note that in all the subjects, candidates will be evaluated on their reading skills, critical thinking and analytical ability.
