NLSIU Signs MoU with SIAC

The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) has entered a Memorandum of Understanding with the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) to foster global standards in arbitration. This collaboration aims to enhance the field through curriculum development, lectures, workshops, and internships.

The agreement signed between NLSIU and the SIAC will strengthen this partnership by creating a new module on "SIAC and Institutional Arbitration" and integrate it into the existing curriculum. NLSIU and SIAC have collaborated to organise an annual International Arbitration Moot and Conference since 2012.

Developing Joint Academic Initiatives

This agreement will support the creation of collaborative academic endeavours, including annual lectures, seminars, and joint training programs, aiming to advance the growth and application of international arbitration. Moreover, it will enable NLS students to pursue internships at the SIAC, further enhancing their practical experience in this field.

NLSIU vice-chancellor, Sudhir Krishnaswamy, said “As India aims to establish itself as a hub of international arbitration, NLSIU will take the lead in developing the academic and training programmes necessary for India’s success in this endeavour. This collaboration with the SIAC will help us bring international best standards and best practices to the Indian legal environment, jointly promote the development of international commercial dispute resolution mechanisms, and foster an international perspective in the next generation of arbitration practitioners.”

Talking about the recently signed agreement, Gloria Lim, CEO of SIAC, said that SIAC is glad to partner with NLSIU, offering law students internships and jointly creating courses focused on delivering practical experience in international arbitration practice. “We believe that such efforts serve to support the development and nurture of the next generation of arbitration practitioners and look forward to partnering with NLSIU on this initiative.” she said.
