NLU Delhi Faces Third Suicide in Three Months

The National Law University (NLU) Delhi has experienced its third student suicide in just three months, sparking widespread concern among students and faculty. In response to this tragic incident, the Student Bar Council of NLU Delhi has issued a formal statement addressing the urgent need for institutional reforms. The council expressed deep sorrow over the recurring loss of life within the university and emphasised the importance of fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment.

The statement highlights the growing mental health crisis on campus and calls for immediate action to improve mental health resources, inclusiveness, and solidarity within the student community. The council's plea comes amid rising concerns about academic pressure, emotional well-being, and the lack of adequate mental health support at the institution.

Ensuring Student Voices Are Heard and Acted Upon

"The Student Bar Council is committed to standing by the student body during these trying times and ensuring your concerns are heard and acted upon. We are working closely with the administration to address the concerns of the student body," the press release reads.

The student council also urged the media and alumni to handle any reporting on the incident with care and sensitivity, ensuring that all information is verified. They emphasized that this is a challenging time for the entire student body and called for responsible coverage.

"We must create an environment where everyone feels supported, included, and heard. We request the members of NLU Delhi community to support each other. Let us come together to provide comfort and solidarity to one another. We encourage anyone struggling during this time to reach out for support," the student council concluded in an appeal to the general body of the university.
