RGNUL in collaboration with the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution inaugurated a 03-day capacity-building programme on consumer law.
Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL) in collaboration with the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution inaugurated a three-day capacity-building programme on consumer law from May 18 to May 20, 2023.
The primary goal of this programme was to address the challenges faced by the members of state and district consumer dispute redressal commissions in effectively resolving consumer cases. A total of 28 members of the State and District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission of Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh attended the programme. This programme dealt with aspects relating to understanding the key principles of consumer protection, mastering efficient case management techniques and exploring alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
Prof (Dr) Anand Pawar, Officiating Vice Chancellor of RGNUL welcomed the gathering with a positive note and expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs for collaborating and supporting this event.
Rohit Kumar Singh, Secretary, of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution was the Chief Guest of the inaugural session. In his address, he emphasised improving the quality of justice delivery in cases related to consumer grievances. He also stressed the need for alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and technological advancements that can streamline the resolution process.
Justice Paramjeet Singh Dhaliwal, Former Judge, of Punjab and Haryana High Court and former president of, the Punjab State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission was the guest of honour. In his address, he emphasised protecting the rights of the consumers and deliberated upon the mechanisms that would help in reducing the backlog of consumer cases. He stressed the importance of timely justice delivery and the need to enhance the quality of justice in cases related to consumer disputes.
