A top official of the education department of Tripura has revealed that the state will soon have a National Law University (NLU), as a bill seeking its establishment is going to be tabled in the assembly's next session.
As per the top official of the Tripura education department, the state is soon going to have a National Law University (NLU) as a bill seeking its establishment is going to be tabled in the assembly's next session.
“Details of the university capacity, courses would be decided after the Act is formed in the state assembly. But we have provisionally chosen the land for setting up the infrastructure of the national law university in Agartala”, the official said to The Indian Express.
The official has informed further that the new NLU will start its academic activities from the Tripura Judicial Academy building for the upcoming academic session and it will be later shifted to a new building. As per the report, Tripura Law Minister Ratan Lal Nath has met with concerned officials for pushing the plan of setting up a full-fledged law university. The government wants to make this university an institution of national importance for producing quality lawyers.
The official said, "A committee comprising state government representatives, judges of Tripura High Court and legal experts will be constituted to suggest the process for appointment of chancellor, vice-chancellor and faculty members. The panel will also finalise the courses to be offered," as reported by India Today.
For students seeking admission to law courses in Tripura, there are five existing colleges. These institutes are Tripura University, Tripura Government Law College, The ICFAI University, Tripura, Amity University Online, and National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology, Agartala.
