All schools in Lucknow, government and private, are directed to follow official orders. The order will also be applicable on Kasturba Gandhi residential girls schools as well, as on all students, teachers, and non-teaching staff (except emergency services).

Lucknow Schools Shut: Uttar Pradesh schools in Lucknow have received directions to remain closed from January 4 to 7 in view of the Cold Wave. Lucknow schools will remain closed for students of all classes that is up to Class 12. Lucknow District Magistrate Suryapal Gangwar issued the order regarding closure of schools on Monday. The decision has been taken in view of the cold wave alert issued by the India Meteorological Department.

All schools in Lucknow, government and private, are directed to follow official orders. The order will also be applicable on Kasturba Gandhi residential girls schools as well, as on all students, teachers, and non-teaching staff (except emergency services).

In view of the MeT department issuing a cold wave alert, a holiday has been announced in all government and private schools of urban and rural areas of all boards up to Class 12, an order issued by Lucknow District Magistrate Suryapal Gangwar stated.

Earlier, the Basic Education Department of Lucknow had revised school timings for students of Classes 1 to 8 in all schools. The decision was taken amid severe cold weather. According to the revised timings, classes were scheduled to begin from 10 am and end at 2 pm. The revised timings will remain in effect until January 10, 2023.

Other than Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh schools are closed in various districts like Gorakjhpur, Sitapur, Varanasi, and others. As per the IMD weather updates, Dense fog and severe cold will continue in UP for the next 5 days.

Meanwhile, due to the cold weather, the Punjab government also extended winter vacations for the schools. Schools in Punjab are announced to remain shut till January 8.
