The go-ahead to reopen schools in the state following all COVID-19 protocols was given by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan after consultation with medical experts.

Madhya Pradesh School Reopening: The Madhya Pradesh government had announced the reopening of schools for physical classes from today, i.e. February 1, with 50 per cent capacity. The go-ahead to reopen schools in the state following all COVID-19 protocols was given by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan after consultation with medical experts. On January 14, the state closed the schools and hostels for Classes 1 to 12 until January 31 in the wake of a surge in Covid cases.

The announcement came days after the chief minister said the decision on reopening schools would be taken after consultation with experts and review of the COVID-19 situation in the state.

During the meeting, the panel along with the CM reviewed the COVID-19 situation in the state as the cases are coming down in major cities such as Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur and Gwalior.

“Very few coronavirus patients are admitted in hospitals. The decision on opening schools will be taken after considering the COVID-19 situation in other states...experts will be consulted. Schools will be opened only after full deliberation,” Chouhan had said.

Madhya Pradesh is one of the many other states that are reopening schools on February 1. The other states include Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Rajasthan and Haryana.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s Pune district too is reopening schools, colleges from February 1 while in other parts of the states, educational institutions reopened last week.

In Karnataka’s Bengaluru and in Tripura, educational institutions reopened on January 31. The reopening of educational institutions is taking place considering the decreasing number of COVID-19 cases.
