Directing the state school managements the Maharashtra school education department issued a Government Resolution (GR) regarding a waive-off of 15 per cent of the fees for the academic year 2021-22 across all boards and mediums.
Maharashtra Schools Fee Cut: Fifteen days after reopening the schools, Maharashtra Government on August 12, 2021, announced a waive-off of 15 per cent of the fees for the academic year 2021-22 across all boards and mediums. Directing the state school management the Maharashtra school education department issued a Government Resolution (GR) regarding the same. The GR also directed schools to refund fees if paid fully or utilise the excess amount for the next academic year. It further added that one must file a petition with the divisional fee regulatory authority in case of a dispute. The decision taken by the regulatory authority will be binding on all.
Citing the financial losses suffered by families amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the GR said, “Schools have to reduce fee structure by 15 per cent for the academic year 2021-22. If parents have already paid fees, schools should either refund this difference or adjust it for the next academic year fee. If there is any issue in the implementation of the order, a complaining parent can approach the Divisional Fee Regulation Committee (DFRC) with their grievance. No child should be subjected to any act of punishment if parents are delayed on fee payments, this includes denying access to online learning, right to appear for the exam and to receive result among others.”
It further stated, “Schools across Maharashtra are being held online since March 2020 due to which several services offered at school are not being used. Following all this. there was a constant demand from parents to reduce the school fees."
School managements have also received directions of not preventing students from availing online or offline education or bar them from sitting for examinations and withhold results in case of nonpayment of fees.
