The education minister of Maharashtra informed about her condiction via her official Twitter account. 

Maharashtra School Education Minister Varsha Eknath Gaikwad tests positive for COVID19 with mild symptoms. The minister informed about her condition via her official Twitter account. The tweet posted by the Maharashtra education minister reads, “I learned today that I tested positive for COVID-19 after first feeling symptoms yesterday evening. My symptoms are relatively mild. I'm fine and have isolated myself. Request those who met me the past few days to take precautions.” Check her official tweet below:

Schools across Maharashtra reopened from December 1 following strict COVID-19 precautionary. The government took the decision to reopen schools in Maharashtra after conducting a survey organised by the state’s school education department which revealed that more than 70 per cent of parents want schools to be reopened. Earlier, while talking to the media, Gaikwad informed, “If Omicron cases continue to rise, we may take a call to shut the schools again. We are monitoring the situation.”

Maharashtra has reported 1,426 fresh coronavirus cases, including 26 new Omicron patients on December 27, 2021. The health department informed that the state recorded 21 fresh fatalities in the last 24 hours, taking the COVID-19 toll to 1,41,454. The case fatality rate in the state stands at 2.12 per cent.  With the count of active cases crossing the 10,000-mark to stand at 10,441, the gap between new and recovering patients appears to be widening.  With 1,426 new cases, the statewide tally of those infected with COVID-19 reached 66,59,314, it said in a bulletin.

On Sunday, Maharashtra recorded 1,648 COVID-19 cases and 17 deaths. The state had also reported 31 new cases of the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, a day ago. The state has so far recorded 167 Omicron cases. The department further informed that 776 patients were discharged from hospitals, taking the tally of those recovered so far to 65,03,733, the department said.
