Maharashtra School Reopening: While schools are reopening across several states, the Maharashtra government is still contemplating the decision to begin offline classes in the state’s urban areas. State education minister Varsha Gaikwad made an announcement regarding the same after a meeting conducted with the pediatric task force. The meeting was conducted in order to discuss the issue of reopening schools. The minister also informed that the state will issue new SOPs and guidelines for school reopening. Reports suggest that an expert panel set up by the government to analysing school reopening in the state has suggested a few transitions and changes in the guidelines.
According to media sources, a joint meeting will be conducted and the proposal will be sent to the CM. The final decision will be taken by the chief minister.
The state decided not to commence classroom learning with the fear of the COVID-19’s third wave and the health risks involved. The second wave of the deadly virus adversely affected the state. Meanwhile, the government is also waiting for the vaccination status of the teaching and non-teaching staff. As reported by TOI, Dr Bakul Parekh, a senior Mumbai pediatrician and a member of the task force told, “Primarily, teachers and non-teaching staff in schools should get the vaccine first. This would enhance their immunity and make schools safer for children.”
Maharashtra was worst hit during the second wave of the novel coronavirus.
