IIM Indore hosts Faculty Development Programme for Nagaland Educators

A total of 21 faculty and research scholars from Nagaland University and Kohima Science College have registered for the Faculty Development Programme. 

The Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM Indore) is hosting a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) exclusively designed for faculty and research scholars from Nagaland for the first time. This initiative marks a pivotal step in nurturing academic excellence and strengthening the educational framework of the Northeast. A total of 21 faculty and research scholars from Nagaland University and Kohima Science College have registered for the programme. In line with its institutional social responsibility, IIM Indore is ensuring that the participants from Nagaland have full access to the resources and learning opportunities provided throughout this programme, with no associated costs.

Inaugural Address Highlights Role of Education in Nation-Building

The five-day programme was inaugurated by Prof. Himanshu Rai, Director of IIM Indore. In his inaugural address, Prof. Rai emphasized the vital role that education plays in uniting diverse cultures and empowering individuals. He remarked, “At IIM Indore, we believe that education is not just a tool but a responsibility to build bridges, spark innovation, and create leaders. The Northeast is a region brimming with talent and untapped potential, and we are privileged to play a part in nurturing its academic future. This programme is not just about teaching; it’s about sharing, learning, and growing together as a nation.”

Prof. Rai further highlighted IIM Indore’s ongoing initiatives aimed at addressing major national challenges, including inequality, the urban-rural divide, environmental issues, and fostering an entrepreneurial spirit. He called on educators to inspire students to take risks, embrace experimentation, and pursue their entrepreneurial dreams. “If we don’t celebrate failures, we won’t be able to create a culture of innovation or see the rise of big startups from India. It starts with us as mentors,” he said. Prof. Rai concluded his address by emphasizing that this FDP is a two-way journey of learning, fostering an exchange of ideas and collaboration to create solutions for a better India.

Gratitude from Kohima Science College for the Opportunity

Dr Temjenwabang, Principal of Kohima Science College, expressed deep gratitude and appreciation for Prof. Himanshu Rai’s leadership. “This FDP is a reflection of Prof. Rai’s vision and dedication to helping Nagaland progress academically and socially. The overwhelming response from our institution reflects how significant this opportunity is for us,” Dr Temjenwabang said. He also thanked IIM Indore for ensuring that the participants from Nagaland are able to fully engage in this valuable learning experience without any financial burden.

He further addressed the challenges faced by educational institutions in Nagaland, noting the difficulties in implementing skill-based programmes due to limited resources. “We face challenges in introducing skill-based initiatives, and this programme offers us a chance to gain insights on leadership, marketing research, digital marketing, finance for non-finance executives, and case studies and simulations that could be a game-changer for our colleges and universities,” he added.

Professor Subin Sudhir, Associate Dean - Executive Education at IIM Indore, extended a heartfelt welcome to the participants, emphasizing the significance of the programme as a platform for growth and collaboration. He said, “We are delighted to welcome our esteemed faculty and research scholars from Nagaland to the vibrant campus of IIM Indore. This programme is not just about academic sessions; it’s about creating a culture of knowledge-sharing and mutual learning. The Northeast holds immense promise, and through this initiative, we aim to provide tools and insights that will help enhance teaching methodologies, research skills, and leadership capabilities.”

Prof. Rajhans Mishra, Programme Coordinator, delivered a vote of thanks and shared his thoughts on the significance of the Faculty Development Programme. He emphasized that the sessions are designed to provide practical tools and insights that participants can take back to their classrooms. “The true benefit of initiatives like this FDP lies in clearing out myths and broadening perspectives,” Prof. Mishra said. He encouraged the participants to have an open mindset and to connect the dots between the diverse ideas and experiences they gain during the programme.
