IIM Lucknow Eligibility Criteria for PhD Admission-2025
To be considered for admission, candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
- A Master's degree or its equivalent in any discipline with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks.
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a four-year graduate degree with at least 65% marks or equivalent grade point average.
- Professional qualifications such as CA, ICWA, and CS, along with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks and a B.Com. degree.
- Applicants holding a two- or three-year full-time classroom-based PGDM from any of the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) with a minimum CGPA of 6 on a 10-point scale or 60% aggregate marks.
- Applicants who have completed the PGP-WE (earlier WMP) of IIM Lucknow with a minimum CGPA of 6.
- All applicants must have secured a minimum of 55% marks in all their public exams from 10th grade onwards.
IIM Lucknow PhD Admission Process and Selection Criteria 2025
Applicants will be shortlisted based on their scores in one of the following exams:
- Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by IIMs
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
- Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)
- Junior Research Fellowship/Senior Research Fellowship (JRF/SRF) in UGC/CSIR/ICAR
Only scores obtained from these exams between January 1, 2023, and the application deadline will be considered valid.
Exemption for IIM Alumni
Applicants who have completed a full-time PGDM from an IIM (including IIM Lucknow’s PGP-WE) are exempt from taking the above exams. These candidates may apply directly through the prescribed application form, provided they meet the following additional requirements:
- A certificate from the IIM verifying that the programme was full-time.
- The percentage-conversion formula from the degree-granting IIM. If unavailable, their CGPA will be proportionately scaled to reflect a score out of 100%.
International Applicants
Overseas applicants, including NRIs and foreign nationals, are also encouraged to apply. For these candidates, GMAT/GRE scores obtained in the previous one year will be considered.

Selection Round: Candidates selected for MBA based on their Class 10, Class 12, CAT qualifying and CAT final cutoff are called for further selection rounds, such as the Written Ability Test and Personal Interview. A commutative score is then calculated based on the performance of the candidates in all the aforementioned parameters. Similarly for other courses, candidates who meet the set eligibility need to go through the institute-specific selection process and get shortlisted.
3. Merit List and Admission Confirmation: After completion of the selection rounds, a category-wise merit list is released based on the Final Composite Score.
