AIIMS Gorakhpur MBBS student alleges rape by senior

AIIMS Gorakhpur: An MBBS student of All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in Gorakhpur has alleged that she was "sexually harassed" by an administrative official last month. After the incident, the student is reportedly undergoing treatment for depression.

As per India Today report, a nine member inquiry committee has been set up to investigate the student's allegations thoroughly. The Vishakha committee, responsible for addressing sexual harassment cases, is actively working on the matter.

The incident took place on December 17, 2023. After the incident, the student's health deterioted and she was admitted to the BRD Medical College. As per reports, she had complained to then Executive Director Professor Surekha Kishore but the ED did not take any action.

Now, she and her family contacted the new ED Gopal Krishna Pal and pleaded for justice. As per the victim, she was raped by the official when she along with her classmates had gone to submit a complaint of poor food quality in the mess.

As per ETC Bharat report, the girl was asked to stay back and allegedly raped and threatened of dire consequences if she informed anyone of the incident.

The accussed in the case joined AIIMS Gorakhpur in 2021. He is also accussed of allegedly harassing female security guards and the student had gone into a dispute with the accused in October 2023. She has submitted video and audio recordings of some past incidents to the investigatioin team.

ED Prof Pal has said that the investigation report will be submitted soon. 

"This is an unfortunate and serious matter and a thorough probe is underway, action will be taken on the basis of the investigation report," said the ED.
