AIIMS Madurai commences classes for first batch of 50 MBBS students

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Madurai has started classes for first-year MBBS students at the temporary campus in Ramanathapuram Government Medical College and Hospital.

The under-construction All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Madurai has commenced the MBBS classes for the first batch of 50 students at the temporary campus in Ramanathapuram Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

Office of Madurai AIIMS tweet reads, "Madurai AIIMS Medical College commences first class today. Congratulations to the students"

Another tweet on March 26 says, "The classes of AIIMS medical college will be held temporarily at Ramanathapuram Government Medical College."

The buildings' construction work is underway at Thoppur in Madurai, hence, it was decided to conduct classes at Ramanathapuram GMCH temporarily for two years till the construction of the buildings gets completed. Out of the total of 50 seats at AIIMS Madurai, 35 students are from different parts of the country. The remaining seats will be filled in the next round of counselling.

AIIMS Madurai faculty welcomed students

Eight faculty members have been recruited on a contract basis for physiology, anatomy, biochemistry, community and family medicine, as reported by TOI.

The temporary campus at Ramanathapuram GMCH is equipped with smart classrooms, a dissection hall, demonstration rooms and separate common rooms and hostels for boys and girls. Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) Puducherry has been designated as the mentor institute for AIIMS Madurai.
