AIIMS Rishikesh has recently organised the Clinical Training Workshop on Urethroplasty & Penile Prosthesis Implantation.

"The effort of the department in organizing such theme-oriented, highly interactive teaching &training programme and contribution of the expert faculty to live demonstrate the tips & tricks of urethroplasty was highly appreciated by the participants," said the AIIMS Rishikesh statement.

The Department of Urology in association with Uttarakhand urology Society (UKUS) organized a live operative workshop cum CME on Urethroplasty and Penile Prosthesis implantation.

This has been a focused training programme on the operative management of urethral stricture disease and erectile dysfunction in men. The day-long programme was conducted by eminent National Faculty (Dr Sanjay Kulkarni- President Elect of the Urological Society of India and Dr Pankaj Joshi) from Pune. 

A total of five challenging cases of urethral stricture disease (Long-segment of anterior urethral stricture, posterior urethral distraction defect following fracture pelvis, post-traumatic posterior urethral stricture complicated with vesicourethral false passage) were successfully managed using different techniques. 

All cases were live demonstrated. Basic aspects of operative management of urethral stricture, instrumentation, case selection, tips & tricks of dissection, harvesting and preparation of buccal mucosal graft, recognition of intra operative problems and their management were aptly covered during the discussion. The technique of Implantation of Penile Prosthesis has been covered in semi-live format with the help of a recorded video highlighting the critical steps. This focused workshop and interactive discussion with the expert faculty was attended by all the M. Ch Urology students, faculty nursing staff of the department of Urology, and 15 Urologists from the states of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. This was highly beneficial for the students of Urology.
