AISMA Writes To Minister of Health and Family Welfare Seeking Mercy Attempt for MBBS 2021 Batch
AISMA requested Minister of Health and Family Welfare, JP Nadda to consider NMC's policy of four chances to clear the first-year MBBS course in order to enable students to demonstrate their potential and make amends for their previous lapse.
All India Medical Students' Association has written a letter to JP Nadda, Minister of Health & Family Welfare seeking permission for a mercy attempt for the 2021 batch of MBBS students. Through the letter, AIMSA has urged the Minister of Health & Family Welfare to reconsider NMC's policy of providing only four attempts to clear the first-year MBBS programme.
The association further said that a lot of students who enrolled in the 2021 batch were not able to clear the examination after exhausting their four attempts and few of them have only one subject left to pass they merely need nominal marks to clear the examination. The opportunity of a mercy attempt will enable the students to show their potential and make amends for their previous lapse.
"We are writing this letter to bring to your kind attention to the plight of students who enrolled on the 2021 MBBS batch. In this regard, it may be noted that in accordance with NMC policy, students will get only four chances to clear the first-year MBBS course. A number of students who enrolled in 2021 could not clear the examination after exhausting their four attempts. It is relevant to mention here that the majority of these students have only one subject left and they need only nominal marks to do so." Reads the official letter.
Furthermore, the association highlighted that NMC has previously provided mercy attempts to the 2019 and 2020 batches amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We beseech your kind intervention to extend a mercy chance to the students to clear the examination. NMC extended these benefits to the 2019 and 2020 batches. In the initial phase of the first-year course, their classes also were compromised due to the Covid-19 pandemic." The official letter further added.
