Allahabad High Court bench has asked the state government to fill senior teaching posts in medical colleges at the earliest.

While hearing the plea of a women professor, Allahabad High Court bench of Justice Alok Mathur passed the order to the state government to ensure that all senior teaching posts of medical colleges are filled at the earliest.

The plea highlighted that the professor named Dr Yasmeen Usmani was currently posted at Shaikh-Ul-Hind Maulana Mahmood Hasan Medical College, Saharanpur but the state government has directed her to teach in Saharanpur college for two days and for four days at the Meerut Medical College from August 24, 2021. Both the colleges are nearly 150 km apart.

Hence, the Professor knocked on the High Court door challenging the government's order as being a woman she is finding it difficult for her to commute this distance twice a week, she has requested to be allowed to work at her present place.

Her petition was disposed of by High Court, and she was told to make a new representation within two weeks before Medical Education's principal secretary. The court has also asked the government to consider her plea on merit within four weeks also inform the court about its decision.

The High Court also noticed that this situation arose due to vacant senior posts in state's medical colleges. Observing the acute shortage of senior staff including the posts of professor in the Radio-Diagnosis department, it ordered the government to fill the vacant posts as early as possible.
