While attending a programme on the New Education Policy 2020  in Bhopal, Home Minister Amit Shah praised Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for launching the MBBS course in Hindi.

Shah was on a two-day visit to the state capital to participate in various programmes, especially, a Central Zonal Council meeting which the Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh Chief Ministers attended virtually as they could not arrive due to heavy rains in the Madhya Pradesh capital.

“The purpose of the New Education Policy was to develop character, empathy, and courage and prepare students to deal with challenges of life. The education should not only for earning degrees and certificates but also to achieve global good. The education could enable India to reach the pinnacle of success and Indian society was looking up to us with expectations and hope to make it happen,” he said, as reported by Hitavada.

The NEP approved by the Union Cabinet in 2020 replaced the 34-year-old National Policy on Education framed in 1986 and was aimed at paving the way for transformational reforms in school and higher education systems.

MBBS in Hindi: The background

Madhya Pradesh is the first state in India that started working on developing MBBS courses in Hindi. When last year Madhya Pradesh Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang announced providing medical education in Hindi, the National Medical Commission (NMC) said that it is not feasible. However, later on, the state developed books and in the first phase started offering three subjects Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry in Hindi at Bhopal’s Gandhi Medical College. A 14-member committee was established to prepare the work plan for MBBS Hindi Curriculum. The committee was headed by Medical Education Director Dr Jiten Shukla.
