Andhra Pradesh: Five new medical colleges to be functional from next year
Dr NTR University of Health Sciences has approved academic activities in five new medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh from next academic year 2023-24.
As per reports, Dr NTR University of Health Sciences has approved academic activities in five new medical colleges in Eluru, Vizianagaram, Rajamahendravaram, Nandyal and Machilipatnam districts of Andhra Pradesh from the next academic year 2023-24.
The state cabinet recently approved a total of 3,530 posts for these five new medical colleges. The principals and superintendents have already been appointed for the respective colleges and the academic activities will start with 150 MBBS seats in each college, as reported by Telangana Today.
Andhra Pradesh to upgrade healthcare infrastructure
The State Director of Medical Education Dr Raghavendra Rao said that the district hospitals are being converted into teaching hospitals and these colleges are going to apply to the National Medical Commission (NMC) for university affiliation from Thursday onwards.
The Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government is all set to construct 16 new medical colleges in the state, one for each parliamentary constituency. These colleges will be at Piduguralla, Machilipatnam, Anakapalle, Vizianagaram, Rajamahendravaram, Palakollu, Amalapuram, Markapuram, Penukonda, Madanapally, Adoni, Nandyal, Pulivendula, Paderu, Eluru and Bapatla.
The five new medical colleges are part of these 16 colleges which will become functional from next year and add a total of 750 MBBS seats.

CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has performed the Bhoomi pooja of the Greenfield Ramayapatnam Port construction project yesterday which will be built in two phases. The first phase is estimated to cost INR 3,736 crores. It is proposed to have four berths, including one coal berth, two container berths and one multipurpose berth with a cargo handling capacity of 25 million tonnes, as reported by Swarajya.
