Annamalai University closes medical and dental colleges
Annamalai University has issued a circular to close the medical and dental colleges indefinitely.
In wake of the students' protest to reduce the fees as par with the government colleges, Annamalai University has closed the government medical and dental colleges for an indefinite period.
The official circular reads, "In view of the adverse and unfavourable circumstances in the premises of Government Medical College, Cuddalore District (erstwhile) Rajah Muthiah Institute of Health Sciences, the Medical and Dental Colleges are CLOSED INDEFINITELY for undergraduate students with immediate effect, until further orders."
Annamalai University: Freshers' classes will continue as before
The circular announced exemption to the following:
- The classes for MBBS & BDS freshers (2021-2022 batch) will be conducted as usual and they will be permitted to stay in the hostel.
- Postings for the CRRIs of Medical and Dental Colleges will continue and they will also be permitted to stay in the hostel. The attendance of CRRIs will be mandatory.
Other than these, all students are instructed to vacate the university premises.
"All other students are instructed to vacate the university premises and their respective hostels by 4 pm on April 25, 2022, without any deviation, unauthorised stay in the hostels and gathering beyond 4 pm will be viewed with serious concern," added the circular.
The background of the students' strike at Annamalai University
The students of Annamalai University are on indefinite strike from Thursday. These students are demanding a reduction in fees on par with government colleges in the state for students who joined medical and dental courses before the academic year 2021-22.
