AP: AYUSH students to get modern medicine training; Doctors raise concern

Andhra Pradesh government has decided to permit AYUSH students to undergo modern medicine clinical training, the allopathic doctors are not pleased with the decision.

While all over the country AYUSH related fields are developing at a high pace. A lot of initiatives are being taken by the government for the development of AYUSH and the government is also making efforts to combine AYUSH with modern medicine to achieve holistic treatment facilities. 

Earlier National Medical Commission (NMC) included one-week AYUSH training in the MBBS internship program. In line with this, the Andhra Pradesh government has issued a notice that the AYUSH student must undergo modern clinical training in the state. However, the practitioners of modern medicine are not happy with the decision.

The National Vice President of All India Medical Students' Association (AIMSA) tweeted, "#Mixopathy being implemented in Andhra Pradesh. Clinical training in Modern Medicine would be provided to Ayush students by Govt Medical colleges. I think soon the government will appoint them to Central institutions like AIIMS. Intellectual Govt with brilliant plans!"

The state government's notice reads, "Government hereby decide and permit the students of AYUSH colleges both government and private to undergo clinical training in modern hospitals mentioned against the AYUSH college as per the norms/guidelines of Central Council of AYUSH systems and also hereby direct the DME, DPH, APVVP and other heads of respective institutions to arrange clinical training to the students of AYUSH colleges both government and private to be established in future also, subject to, a fee need to fixed to be collected from AYUSH colleges (private) per head which shall be remitted to the government."
