BAMS, BSMS, BUMS students whose internship commenced after December 20, 2023, must qualify NExT exam: RTI

National Commission for Indian System of Medicine, Ministry of Ayush, notified in January 2024 that the National Exit Test will be a mandatory exam for granting a license to practice as a Medical Practioner of respective disciplines of the Indian System of Medicine.

"The students whose internship has been commenced after the notification of National Examination Regulation in the Gazette of India i.e. after December 20, 2023, those students have to qualify NEXT. Further date of conduction of exam will be upload on website to inform timely," said the official notification of National Commission for Indian System of Medicine.

The Commission said earlier that the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine Act, 2020 provision in section 15 (1)(2)(3) states to conduct a National Exit Test for final year medical undergraduate students. The test will be for each discipline such as Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and SowaRigpa of the Indian System of Medicine.

Karnataka HC declines to extend BAMS admission deadline 

Last year, Achutha Ayurveda Medical College of Bengaluru and 25 other institutions moved to the Karnataka High Court to appeal for an extension of the deadline for admissions to the undergraduate Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) course. As per the TOI report, the high court has dismissed the petition.

The colleges wanted to conduct additional rounds of counselling to fill the vacant seats. However, NCISM had submitted that unfilled seats cannot be ground for additional rounds of counselling.
