Bihar High Court orders cancellation of recognition to 11 universities

Bihar High Court orders cancellation of recognition to 11 universities

The Bihar High Court has ordered the cancellation of recognition of nearly 11 universities and 325 colleges due to the non-utilisation of funds worth INR 287 crores.

Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice S Kumar have ordered the Vice Chancellors of seven universities that the recognition of 13 colleges in the first phase list should be abolished by August 18, as reported by India.com. 

If the Vice Chancellors of the universities will not take action after taking cognizance of the court’s order, then a fine is likely to be imposed on them. Also, the court has directed the VCs that the information regarding the action taken must be submitted to the court.

List of cancelled colleges of Bihar

As per media reports, most of the colleges whose recognitions are getting cancelled are from Bhupendra Narayan Mandal University and Tilkamanjhi University, Bhagalpur. These colleges are - Purnea College, Sarb Narayan Ram Kunwar Singh College, Veer Narayan Chand College, Chandramukhi Bhola College, BN Mandal Darshan Sah College, Kesrichand Tarachand College of Bhimrao Ambedkar University, MJK College, Srilakshmi Kishori Mahavidyalaya, Madan Ahilya Women’s College of Tilkamanjhi University, Mahila College, Mahant Madhusudan College of Magadh University, Sardar Patel Memorial College, and Nandlal Singh College of JP University.

Bhupendra Narayan Mandal University recently held its fourth convocation on August 3, 2022, where students of MA, MSC, MCom courses of 2016-18 and 2017-19 batches, MLIS course of 2019-20, MS and MD courses of the year 2020, MEd of 2017-19, 2018-20, 2019-21 and PhD students were given degrees.
