Centre plans to set up AIIMS-like college to train nurses
As per a report, India is planning to create medical institute at par with AIIMS to train nurses to supply skilled nurses to the world, capitalizing on the country’s reputation as a source of top-quality healthcare professionals. The plan also involves setting up a National Nursing Commission, for which a cabinet note has already been moved.
The government is planning to create more skilled nurses to supply to the world, capitalizing on the country’s reputation as a source of top-quality healthcare professionals. The main objective is to position India as the world’s top producer of post-graduate nurses, as outlined in the National Health Policy of 2017.
As per the report of Mint, the government is planning to establish the first All India Institute of Post-Graduate Nursing Education and Research in Gauripur, West Bengal.
The college will offer advanced courses, including PhDs, post-graduate diplomas and Master of Science (MSc) programmes.
The proposed college will offer nurse practitioner programmes in seven clinical specialities, including critical care, forensic nursing, neonatal nursing, burns and plastic surgery nursing, orthopaedic nursing and oncology nursing.
As part of the Union health budget 2023, the government announced plans to establish 157 new nursing colleges alongside existing medical colleges set up since 2014.
Chhattisgarh HC strikes 100% reservation for direct recruitment of women nurses
Recently, the high court struck down a government decision to provide 100% reservation for direct recruitment of women to the posts of assistant professors and demonstrators in all government nursing colleges in the state, terming it “unconstitutional”, as reported by Indian Express.
