Centre's stand causes anguish in Ukraine returned medicos, says CM Stalin
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin once again writes to PM Modi on the issue of accommodating Ukraine returned students to Indian medical colleges, read here to know more.
After the Centre has submitted to the Supreme Court that there is no provision in the National Medical Commission (NMC) to allow Ukraine returned medical students to continue education in India and allowing them will also affect the medical standard of the country, now Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has urged the PM Minister Modi to intervene to accommodate Ukraine returnee medical students in Indian private medical colleges as per the recommendation of the LS Committee on External Affairs or devise a framework to identify suitable colleges/universities abroad & centrally coordinate the process.
Stalin has written a message for PM Modi that stated that the recent stand of the Centre has caused anguish among Ukraine returned medicos.
His letter reads, "This needs to be reconsidered. If accommodating such returned students in government medical colleges is seemed difficult, I request that these students can be accommodated in private colleges by creating additional seats as a one-time measure. Since these students sought education in Ukraine due to their inability to pay the higher fees in private medical colleges in India, a special dispensation may be considered in the form of a comparable fee structure in the private medical college in India similar to fees paid by the students abroad. This will allow the affected students to continue their education paying the same level of fees."
The case on this issue is pending in Supreme Court and the next hearing is scheduled for September 23, 2022. The court has advised the Centre to create a portal for Ukraine returned medical students to maintain transparency.
