The Dental Council of India (DCI) has approved 15 more post-graduation seats in five disciplines at Government Dental College, Vijayawada. Admission for these seats will commence from the current academic year 2023-24. The college already had nine PG seats in various disciplines. Now, the college has a total of 24 PG dental seats.

The Union Health Ministry has issued a letter to the principal of Government Dental College, Vijayawada, approving additional 15 seats, three each in the departments of Orthodontia, Prosthodontics, Pedodontics, Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology. The college earlier had only 9 MDS seats.

As per the report of Janta se rishta, in September 2022, DCI conducted an inspection of the dental college and after that only it sanctioned 15 more PG seats to the college.

GDCH Principal Dr Kolasani Srinivasa Rao expressed happiness over the announcement and thanked Principal Secretary (Health) MT Krishna Babu and Director of Medical Education (DME) Dr Vinod Kumar for their cooperation.

Dr Rao appreciated the services of Dr Mehboob Shaikh and Dr Satheesh Kumar Reddy, members of the Dental Council, for helping in the process. Meanwhile, YSRC NTR President (Health and Medical Wing) Dr Ambati Nagaradhakrishna Yadav congratulated the Dental Council of India officials and others.

As per The Hans India report, the students are happy with the latest development as there are only two Dental colleges under the government in Vijayawada and Kadapa and due to fewer seats the students were left with no choice but to look for private seats or go to other states for dental admissions.
