During the deliberations, the IMA articulated concerns regarding the proposed implementation timeline for NEXT, highlighting various factors necessitating a postponement.

A delegation led by Dr. R V Asokan, the National President of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), recently held crucial discussions with Dr. Atul Goel, Director General Health Services (DGHS), and his team to address two pressing healthcare issues: the National Exit Test (NEXT) and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).

The meeting marked a significant collaboration between the IMA and the Government of India, aiming to combat the rampant overuse of antibiotics through joint initiatives, including a comprehensive survey on antibiotic misuse/overuse.

During the deliberations, the IMA articulated concerns regarding the proposed implementation timeline for NEXT, highlighting various factors necessitating a postponement. These concerns were thoroughly discussed, with the DGHS and his team demonstrating receptivity and understanding. Consequently, the DGHS extended the deadline for stakeholder feedback by an additional 10 days, allowing for a more comprehensive and inclusive consultation process.

The IMA has has voiced its reservations regarding the proposed National Exit Test (NExT) in a letter addressed to Dr. B.N. Gangadhar, Chairman of the National Medical Commission (NMC).

Earlier, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a public notice inviting stakeholders, comprising medical professionals, educators, and students, to contribute their insights on the National Exit Test Regulations, 2023. This initiative, undertaken following the recommendations of a committee established with the approval of the Minister of Health & Family Welfare, seeks to gather diverse perspectives to refine the framework and guidelines governing the NExT exam.

Stakeholders are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the NMC National Exit Test Regulations, 2023, accessible on the NMC website, and provide their feedback through the designated channels. The feedback window is open until February 7, 2024, underscoring the NMC's commitment to transparency and stakeholder engagement in shaping a robust and equitable examination process for medical graduates.

Overall, these developments reflect a concerted effort by healthcare stakeholders to address pertinent issues and collaboratively devise solutions that uphold the integrity and effectiveness of medical education and practice in India.
