Under the bond's terms, UG students will be assigned posts as Junior Residents (JRs), while PG students will be posted as Senior Residents (SRs) in various hospitals under GNCT Delhi.

In a significant move, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi has approved the introduction of a mandatory one-year service bond for all medical students graduating from NEET UG and NEET PG programs from 2024 onwards. The bond applies to both All India Quota and State Quota students enrolled in medical institutions across Delhi.

According to the new policy, students completing their undergraduate (UG) or postgraduate (PG, including super-speciality) medical courses will be required to serve in medical institutions under the Government of the National Capital Territory (GNCT) of Delhi for one year. To ensure compliance, students will be required to furnish a bond amounting to ₹15 lakhs for UG courses and ₹20 lakhs for PG courses. This bond will be forfeited if the student opts out of the mandatory service period.

Under the bond's terms, UG students will be assigned posts as Junior Residents (JRs), while PG students will be posted as Senior Residents (SRs) in various hospitals under GNCT Delhi. Those with super-speciality degrees will receive stipends with an additional increment. The policy also includes provisions for the allocation of these students to vacant posts within Delhi’s healthcare system, including government and society hospitals.

A committee, led by the Dean of Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), will assess the need for additional JR and SR posts in GNCT hospitals. The committee will evaluate the availability of existing positions and recommend the creation of new posts if necessary.

This mandatory service bond will come into effect for the next academic session. Until its implementation, students graduating before the bond takes effect will be offered voluntary opportunities to serve in JR or SR positions, with remuneration as prescribed.

As per the letter, the introduction of the bond is part of Delhi's efforts to address the growing need for medical professionals in public healthcare institutions.
