Dharmendra Pradhan urges early functioning of Talcher Medical College
The Odisha government named the medical college and hospital after freedom fighter Pabitra Mohan Pradhan and had assured to start the institution on October 1. However, the medical college is yet to start functioning.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has raised concern over the delay in the functioning of Talcher Medical College. He urged for the early functioning of Talcher Medical College in Angul district.
Dharmendra Pradhan said this while attending Ravan Podi programmes in Angul and Dhenkanal districts on Tuesday.
"The Centre has arranged Rs 1,500 crore for the medical college. However, it is yet to function. This has surprised many," he said, as reported by TOI.
He said the state government has named the medical college and hospital after freedom fighter Pabitra Mohan Pradhan and decided to start it very soon. “The state had assured us of starting the college on October 1. But the college could not function till date,” he added.
He demanded the state government to start this medical college and hospital very soon. He also stated that the district mineral foundation is receiving crores of rupees for development works.
"This fund should be used for providing basic amenities to the public," he added.
In April this year, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved in principle the proposal of the Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) to start the Mahanadi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Talcher, Angul.
MCL has constructed the institution in 20 acres of land provided by the State government. The medical college will have 100 seats capacity admission per year and the hospital has facilities with 500 beds.
