Doctors' Association alleges Telangana private medical colleges stealing PG students' stipends

The Doctors' Association Healthcare Reforms Doctor's Association (HRDA) submitted a representation to A Gopal Reddy, chairman, of the Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC) and alleged that the private medical colleges of Telangana are collecting an excess fee of up to INR 50,000 in the name of lab fees, library fees, sports fees. The association also alleged that private colleges are opening dummy bank accounts to siphon off students’ stipend money.

"Private medical colleges in Telangana are doing fraudulent activities by collecting excess fees above TAFRC recommendations and stipend payment through dummy accounts by threatening students," reads the HRDA tweet.

Last year in February, the state government issued two Government Orders (GO) permitting unaided non-minority medical and dental institutions to hike tuition fees.

The decision to increase the fee was taken after private medical colleges submitted their expense information to the TAFRC. The colleges where the fees were increased are MNR Medical College in Mahbubnagar, Kamineni Institute of Medical Sciences in Narketpally, Kamineni Academy in LB Nagar, and Chalmeda Anand Rao Medical College in Karimnagar district.

As per reports, TAFRC is all set to review the MBBS, PG Medical, Ayush, SS, and Dental Courses fee structure of private medical colleges.
