Centre has appointed Dr Prasanth Lavania as the new president of AIIMS Madurai after former president V Nagarajan died of cardiac arrest on January 13. Dr Prasanth is currently working as a professor in the department of surgery at Sarojini Naidu Medical College in Agra.

After All India Institute Of Medical Science (AIIMS) Madurai's former president V Nagarajan died of cardiac arrest on January 13, now the union government has appointed Dr Prasanth Lavania as the new president of the AIIMS. Dr Nagarajan Venkataraman (77) was appointed in October 2022.

Dr Prasanth Lavania is currently working as a professor in the department of surgery at Sarojini Naidu Medical College in Agra.

Recently AIIMS Madurai organised its first Fresher's Day. The medical college tweeted, "The first ever Fresher's Day - INICIO of AIIMS Madurai was organised with great elan and in most befitting manner. 

Director & CEO @mangalAiimsAP was the Chief Guest.Students put up a splendid show and showed their multi farious talents."

AIIMS Madurai to conduct interviews for faculties recruitment

The interviews for recruitment of various faculty posts including Professor, Additional Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor on regular basis in various disciplines will be held in person at The Tamil Nadu, Dr MGR Medical University, Guidy, Chennai on March 13, 2023, for General Medicine Paediatrics department and on March 14, 2023 for General Surgery and Obstetrics & Gynaecology, from 7:30 am onwards.

Recent update on AIIMS Madurai

In response to an RTI filed to know the amount spent on the new AIIMS, it was found that only a paltry INR 12.35 crore was spent on the Central Hospital. As per the RTI reply, INR 1977 crore was proposed and only INR 12.35 crore, which is less than one per cent, was spent. The response also said that AIIMS Madurai construction will conclude on October 2026, as reported by DT Next.
