The National Testing Agency (NTA) has organised the NEET UG 2024 Re-exam for 1563 candidates amid the NEET UG controversy at several exam centres across the country. The examination was conducted on June 23, 2024, for students who received grace marks in their NEET UG 2024 scorecards. However, the examination was not mandatory, consequently, only 52% of students appeared for the examination. As per the NTA, 618 students out of 1563 candidates appeared for the entrance examination, while 750 students skipped the re-examination.
What will happen to students who did not appear for NEET UG 2024 re-exam?
NTA allotted grace marks to 1563 students despite pre-information about the allotment of grace marks. Consequently, the NEET 2024 result controversy reached an extreme level where the apex court had to intervene in the matter. Meanwhile, NTA announced the withdrawal of grace marks and retest for those who received the grace marks in their scorecards.
Further, NTA announced that students who appear for the re-test will get the scores as per the re-examination. On the other hand, students who do not appear for the re-test will have to accept their original scores, minus the grace marks.
Why students were allotted grace marks in NEET UG 2024?
NTA awarded grace marks to students who were unable to complete their examination due to 'loss of exam time. At many NEET 2024 exam centres, the examination was started after the scheduled time. The agency informed that they followed the same formula that the court had approved in the CLAT examination, where a similar situation occurred in 2018, as reported by NDTV.
It all started when 67 candidates secured a perfect 720 on 720 scores in the NEET UG exam. Despite several attempts by NTA, a widespread accusation of paper leak resulted in nationwide protests and legal cases.
As per the latest turn of events, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken charge of investigating the matter, following a complaint by the Ministry of Human Resources.
